Another One Bites the Dust

This is one of the ways — posting clickbait on social media. Thank you for the traffic! 😁

Now, the real answer behind the graph.

BTW, apologies for manipulating the one on LinkedIn.

The reason for this huge spike is the honey-pot section for AI bots on 1 Euro SEO – the BS Detector for Businesses and the thousands of automatically created audits that expose the difference between claimed expertise and demonstrated substance.

Even though it is disallowed for Google bots, the rest of them love it, and from time to time, it gets special attention. 😁

Explanation for everyone who didn’t come from my LinkedIn post:

This page was created as a playful, sarcastic example of the vanity of SEO metrics – especially how new users can be manipulated if average engagement time, for example, is not taken into account.

A Very Timely Reality Check on AI Scrapers in GA4

Beyond the joke, there is a serious technical point for 2026 analytics:
Many modern AI scrapers, headless browsers, and LLM web-crawlers now execute JavaScript. Unlike old-school crawlers that just grabbed raw HTML and ignored tags, today’s AI bots trigger GTM tags and fire GA4 events, creating massive spikes in “New Users” with 0s engagement.

If an SEO or analytics team isn’t monitoring engagement thresholds, hostname filters, and bot signatures on their honeypots or programmatic pages, they could easily report this to clients or management as “explosive organic reach.”
